As Guilhem progresses through the program, he has had the chance to stay in Bisei Town, an area of Ibara City up in mountains which is famous for its internationally-certified beautiful night sky. After staying at fabulously stylish local B&B for the past couple of week, we caught up with him to see how it has been before he begins his summer break.

You’ve been staying at the B&B Pension Comet for 2 weeks. How has it been?
あなたはペンションコメットに2週間滞在しています。どうでしたか？
It's been interesting! The pace is quite different, I try to participate a bit in the various tasks to be done to assist the pension staff, but in the long run and added to the work I have to do, it's a bit tiring. On the other hand, I've had the chance to go and help the (Bisei) observatory researchers! Being able to develop scripts to do a bit of telescope shot manipulation was very interesting.
とても興味深かったです！ペースがかなり違っていて、ペンションのスタッフを手伝うためにいろいろな仕事に少し参加していますが、自分の仕事に加えて、長期間だと少し疲れます。その一方で、天文台の研究者たちを手伝う機会がありました！望遠鏡での撮影を少し操作するスクリプトを開発することがとても面白かったです。
How does it differ to staying with a host family?
ホストファミリーと過ごすのとはどう違いますか？
At the boarding house, customers come first. And since I'm not exactly a customer, I have to be more independent. That's why, at mealtimes, I help wash the dishes while waiting for all the guests to be served. Once that's done, I get to enjoy a great meal!
ペンションではお客さんが最優先です。そして、私はお客さんではないので、もっと自立しなければなりません。だから、食事の時間には、すべてのお客さんが食べ終わるのを待ちながら皿洗いを手伝っています。それが終わると、美味しい食事を楽しめます！
Have you met any interesting people?

Yes, the staff at the guesthouse are very welcoming, and I've also chatted with guests, with Mr Naoya, the owner of the guesthouse, who is also part of the family that welcomes me. It was interesting to meet people from towns quite far from Bisei, who had come to see the starry skies of Bisei.
はい、ゲストハウスのスタッフはとても歓迎してくれますし、ゲストともおしゃべりしました。ゲストハウスのオーナーであり、私を迎えてくれたファミリーの一員である直也さんとも話しました。美星の星空を見に来た、美星からかなり遠い町から来た人たちと出会えたのは興味深かったです。
Where have you explored in Bisei Town?
美星町ではどこを探検しましたか？
The village of Bisei is quite a hilly one, so I didn't explore too far from the guesthouse, apart from cycling to the observatory. The temperature was also quite high, so the comfort of the room and the guesthouse seemed more appealing.
美星の村はかなり丘陵地帯なので、天文台まで自転車で行く以外は、ゲストハウスからあまり遠くには出かけませんでした。気温もかなり高かったので、部屋やゲストハウスの快適さがより魅力的に感じられました。

Your internship is almost at its end and there will be only one week left when you get back from your break. Is there anything still left to do on your wishlist in Japan?
インターンシップがほぼ終わりに近づき、休暇から戻ったらあと1週間しかありません。
日本でまだやりたいことはありますか？
Of course there is! I think it would be a bad decision to do everything I want to do in Japan in one go. If I still have things to do, it will motivate me to go back again! And with that desire, I'm sure I'll find new things to add to the list.
もちろんあります！日本でやりたいことを一度にすべてやるのは良くない決断だと思います。まだやりたいことが残っていれば、また戻ってくる動機になりますし、その気持ちで新しいリストを追加することもできるでしょう。
