Kagura is a traditional Japanese performance of mainly dance, performed with a taiko drum in western Japan.

There are various types of kagura but as Ibara City falls in the Bicchu Province, the type most commonly perfomed is called Bicchu Kagura.

The storylines are often based on Japanese mythology of the Gods and how Japan came to be.

In Bisei Town, you can experience what true, traditional kagura is like. With a small stage allowing the audience to view from up to three sides, a kagura performance is often a small but intimate affair, wildly popular with both adults and children.

Due to the storylines, the show is told in ancient Japanese but even if you can't understand the words, the skilled choreography of the dances, the flamboyant costumes and detail of the props, as well the vibrations of the music and taiko drums makes this an experience you cannot miss!
