About

At the Bisei Kagura Hall, you can learn about the Kagura through the exhibitions they put on year round. These exhibitions display the history, examples of clothes, props and tools that have been used throughout the ages.

The Kagura of this area is called 'Bicchu Kagura', and has been performed for generations. In recent years, with the popularity of the Kagura waning, the Bisei Kagura Hall was set up in order to preserve the performance and stop it from disappearing.

And what a performance it is! With the beat of the taiko drums, the complicated choreography, the exquisite costumes and props, experiencing a Kagura performance is unlike anything else. Often times you can even buy tickets with a meal included, usually a delicious local bento that you can eat in the intermission.

Due to the hall, you can now often see performances of Kagura, which serves to preserve the traditional art, whilst also rousing interest from the younger generations. It has inspired so many children that there is even a popular kids Kagura club which sometimes puts on events at local festivals - so watch out for that. The kids are both talented and super cute!
