Born on June 1st 2013, Denchu-kun has many admiring fans due to his cute nature and soft, fluffy hair!

is Ibara's beloved mascot character!

He is named after the famous sculptor Hirakushi Denchu, who was from Ibara and designed after one of his most famous pieces of art – “Kagamijishi”, which portrays a dancing Kabuki (traditional performance) actor.

He was created by blending together a magnificent traditional character with an adorably friendly personality.

The “Kagamijishi” directly translates to “Mirror Lion” but is officially known as "The Kabuki Dance" in English. It was modeled after the 6th Onoe Kikugoro, a Kabuki actor, and took 20 years to complete.

It is a historical piece of art, very famous in the modern sculpting world. The piece was on display at Tokyo’s National Theatre until 2023.
