Alas, we have come to the end of the 2024 ESIEA University <> Ibara City Internship with our current intern, Guilhem.
残念ながら、2024年のESIEA大学と井原市のインターンシップも、ギエムくんとのプログラムが終了を迎えました。
This time, we granted him the special opportunity to take a week off from the program, in order to travel around Japan with his parents, who came to visit from France.
今回は特別な機会として、フランスから訪れたご両親と一緒に日本を旅行するため、1週間のお休みを取ってもらいました。
After returning, he spent his final week with his last host family and we bid him goodbye.
戻ってからは、最後のホストファミリーの元で最後の一週間を過ごし、彼に別れを告げました。

Welcome back to Ibara! How was your trip?
井原市へお帰りなさい！旅行はいかがでしたか？
It was a great trip, and finding my parents in Japan was a lot of fun! I was able to change my point of view a bit, from that of an intern to that of a full-time tourist! It felt good, especially to be able to visit places with my parents, and assist them when necessary. For once I could speak the local language and not just English, so I had to make the most of it!
素晴らしい旅行でしたし、日本で両親と再会するのはとても楽しかったです！インターンではなく、観光客としての視点で日本を楽しむことができました。特に、両親と一緒に観光し、必要な時に手助けできたことが嬉しかったです。現地の言葉を使えるというのも、英語だけではなくて、今回はしっかりと日本語も使い倒しました！
Where did you go with your parents?
ご両親とはどこに行きましたか？
We passed through Tokyo and Kyoto before arriving in Ibara after a week. In Tokyo, we visited Hasakusa, the Sky Tree tower and the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. We followed suggestions and bookings made by the travel agency my parents used, but also superb recommendations from Mrs. Chijiki, the mother of the first host family! Having her point of view, they helped us get out of the way of tourist attractions. The Ruriko-in temple in Kyoto was really very relaxing. So was the Ippodo-Tea tea store, or a night visit to the Kenninji Hatto temple, with a very interesting light show. In Ibara, we went to eat at Mr. and Mrs. Chijiki's! I couldn't wait for my parents to meet them. It was a very interesting meal to share! The next day we went to visit the ancient city of Kurashiki, guided by Mr. and Mrs. Chijiki. Afterwards, my parents continued their trip to Okayama, before returning to Tokyo a little early to avoid the typhoon-related train blockage. For my part, I returned to Ibara, before meeting my 3rd host family, long-time friends of Mr. and Mrs. Idehara.
東京と京都を経て、1週間後に井原に到着しました。東京では浅草やスカイツリー、三鷹のジブリ美術館を訪れました。旅行会社が手配してくれたものの他に、最初のホストファミリーの千々木さんのお母様の素晴らしいおすすめもありました！観光スポットから少し外れた場所も案内してくれて、特に京都の瑠璃光院はとてもリラックスできました。さらに、一保堂茶舗や、夜の建仁寺法堂での興味深いライトショーも良かったです。井原では千々木さんご夫妻のお宅で食事をいただきました。両親に彼らを紹介するのが楽しみでしたし、共に過ごした食事の時間はとても興味深いものでした。翌日、倉敷の古い町並みを千々木さんご夫妻の案内で見学しました。その後、両親は岡山に行き、台風の影響で列車が止まる前に少し早めに東京に戻りました。私は井原に戻り、次のホストファミリーである、出原さんご夫妻の長年の友人のお宅にお世話になりました。
Are you looking forward to going home?
帰国が楽しみですか？
Let's face it, I do want to go home, so I can unpack a bit! Indeed, the situation is a bit comical... But I don't have any more room in my suitcases. On a more serious note, I'm away for two months, and I've come to terms with it. I've put aside some of my hobbies, and as a rather casanier (stay-at-home) person, I'm starting to miss my home! There's a French saying that goes, "All good things must come to an end". We shouldn't try to prolong this trip at all costs, at the risk of ruining it.
正直に言うと、家に帰るのも楽しみです。少し荷物を片付けたいですからね！実は少し面白い状況で、スーツケースにもう荷物が入らなくなっています。冗談はさておき、2か月間も離れているので、そろそろ落ち着きたい気持ちもあります。趣味も少し控えていましたし、家でのんびりするのが好きなタイプなので、家が恋しくなってきました。「良いことには終わりがある」というフランスのことわざがありますが、無理に旅行を延ばすと、かえってその良さを失ってしまうこともあります。
What will you miss the most about Ibara?
井原で最も恋しくなるものは何ですか？
The people I’ve met, without a doubt. I’ve formed some wonderful connections during my time here—relationships that I’ll cherish and never forget. These encounters have left a lasting impression on me, and they come with a strong desire to see these people again. The warmth and kindness I experienced in Ibara will stay with me, and I look forward to the chance to reconnect in the future.
間違いなく、ここで出会った人々です。ここで過ごした時間で素晴らしいつながりができました。それは一生忘れられないものです。これらの出会いは、私に強い印象を残し、また再会したいという気持ちが湧いてきます。井原で感じた温かさや優しさは、これからも私の心に残り、将来再びつながれることを楽しみにしています。
This is the last questionnaire! Is there anything you want to say to the people of Ibara?
これが最後の質問です！井原の皆さんに何か伝えたいことはありますか？
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made my stay in Ibara unforgettable. From my host families to the staff at Pension Comet, to the researchers at the observatory, and the office workers of the association. each played a special role in making this journey meaningful and assisting me whenever I needed help. I hope to return to Japan soon, ready for new experiences and eager to learn more.
井原での滞在を忘れられないものにしてくださった皆さんに、心から感謝の気持ちを伝えたいです。ホストファミリーやペンションコメットのスタッフ、天文台の研究者の皆さん、そして協会の職員の方々、皆さんがこの旅を意義深いものにし、必要なときに助けてくださいました。次回はさらに多くの経験を積み、もっと学ぶために、日本に戻ってきたいと思います。
