Au Revoir Christopher & Lohann: The end of the 2025 Internship

It's been 7 weeks since our two interns joined us here in Ibara for the 2025 internship and the time has finally come to say goodbye. We caught up with them for the last time before they fly back to their lives in France.

井原での2025年インターンシップが始まってから、早くも7週間が経ちました。フランスから来た2人のインターンも、いよいよ帰国の時を迎えます。出発前の最後のインタビューに応じてもらいました

We’ve come to the end! Thursday will be the final day of the internship. How do you feel? 

ついに終わりが近づいてきましたね！木曜日がインターンシップ最終日です。今、どんな気持ちですか？

Christopher: It really feels like everything went by in an instant and I am a bit saddened by this. I don’t really know how I will recover after leaving Ibara, but I am also looking forward to seeing my family and my friends.

クリストファー：本当にあっという間に過ぎてしまって、少し寂しい気持ちです。井原を離れた後、自分がどうなるのか正直まだ分かりません。でも、家族や友人に会えるのは楽しみです。

Lohann: A little tired and a little sad. I’ve done so many things and I don’t want it to end ! 

ロアン：ちょっと疲れましたが、やっぱり寂しいです。いろんなことを経験して、終わってほしくないと思っています！

Is there any place you still wanted to go, or anything you wanted to do that you haven’t yet? 

まだ行きたかった場所、やりたかったことはありますか？

Christopher: Yes! There are many shops in Ibara to which I haven’t been yet! Apart from Ibara, I feel like I have been to all the places that are close enough to Ibara, so I am quite happy about that.

I have experienced so many aspects of the Japanese culture that I feel almost like it has become a part of my culture too.

クリストファー：はい！井原にはまだ行けていないお店がたくさんあります！井原以外の近隣エリアはだいたい行くことができたので、それはすごく満足しています。

日本文化のさまざまな面を体験できて、もう自分の文化の一部になったような気がしています。

Lohann: I wanted to go to a Karaoke but because everyone is in vacation right now we couldn’t go :(. 

ロアン：カラオケに行きたかったのですが、みんな夏休み中でスケジュールが合わなくて行けませんでした（泣）

Are you looking forward to going home? 

フランスに帰るのは楽しみですか？

Christopher: I do want to go back to my family and friends, but at the same time I feel like there are many things that I will miss from Ibara and Japan so there is that conflict in my head currently.

The konbinis, cheap food, variety of goods to buy… I will certainly miss those things.

But! I am really looking forward to introducing all my relatives to the tea ceremony, calligraphy, origami, and other things that can only be done in Japan.

クリストファー：家族や友人に会いたい気持ちはありますが、井原や日本のいろんなものが恋しくなるだろうという思いもあって、今はちょっと複雑な気持ちです。

コンビニ、安くて美味しいごはん、種類豊富な商品…絶対に恋しくなります。

でも！お茶会、書道、折り紙など、日本でしか体験できない文化を家族や親戚に紹介するのがとても楽しみです。

Lohann: Yes. 

ロアン：はい。

Have you bought anything here? Any souvenirs for your friends and family back home? 

日本で何か買い物をしましたか？家族や友人へのお土産などは？

Christopher: I have bought so much more than I thought I would need but I am happy to report that I bought gifts for all my friends. I also, of course, bought some pieces of clothing made from Ibara denim, which I am really looking forward to showing to everyone when I will be back in Paris!

クリストファー：思っていた以上にたくさん買ってしまいましたが（笑）、友人全員分のお土産を買うことができたので満足しています。もちろん、井原デニムで作られた洋服もいくつか購入しました！パリに戻ったら、みんなに見せるのが楽しみです！

Lohann: I haven’t bought really important things, but I have been gifted some tea ceremony utensils and matcha and I’m happy to be able to show it to my family. 

ロアン：大きな買い物はしていませんが、茶道の道具や抹茶などをいただきました。家族に見せるのが楽しみです！

This is the last questionnaire! What will you miss the most about Ibara? Is there anything you want to say to the people of Ibara? 

最後の質問です！井原で一番恋しくなることは何ですか？井原市民の皆さんに伝えたいことは？

Christopher: I will totally miss the heartwarming welcoming from the people that I met during my stay in Ibara. The host families will be the ones I miss the most, it almost feels like I will be separated from my family again even though I am going back home ^^’

To the people of Ibara, I want to say thank you. Thank you for believing in us and welcoming us to your city.

I have had only great moments in Ibara, and I will make sure to come back again in the future!

クリストファー：井原で出会った皆さんの温かい歓迎の気持ちが、何よりも恋しくなると思います。特にホストファミリーの皆さんとは、本当の家族と離れるような気持ちで寂しくなります ^^'

井原の皆さん、本当にありがとうございました。私たちを信じて、温かく迎え入れてくださったことに心から感謝しています。

井原での時間はすべてが素晴らしいものでした。将来、必ずまた戻ってきます！

Lohann: Being with my host families. It was really nice and I loved it. As for the people of Ibara, I’ll say “Come to France !”. There’s a lot of things that are different and interesting ! 

ロアン：ホストファミリーと一緒に過ごす時間が一番楽しくて、ずっと心に残ると思います。本当に楽しかったです。井原の皆さんへ――「ぜひフランスにも来てください！」違っていて面白いことがたくさんありますよ！
