すでに井原市内で彼を見かけたかもしれないし、テレビで市長と話す姿を見たかもしれないです。
Either way, we thought it would be nice to interview him to give you a chance to get to know him.
いずれにせよ、皆さんに彼を知ってもらうために、インタビューをしてみようと思います

Could you please introduce yourself?
自己紹介をお願いします。
My name is Guilhem Mas, I'm 20 years old and I've just finished my 3rd year at ESIEA, a French engineering school specialising in computer science located in Laval and Paris. Laval has a similar population size to Ibara, although it's much smaller. I've been living here for 14 years now and I really like the peace and quiet that Laval has to offer.
ギエム・マスと申します。２０歳で、ラバルとパリにあるフランスのコンピューターサイエンス専門学校、ESIEAの3年生を終えたところです。ラバルは井原と同じような人口規模ですが、はるかに小さいです。もう14年もここに住んでいますが、ラバルの平和で静かなところがとても気に入っています。
Is this your first time visiting Japan?
日本を訪れるのは初めてですか？
Yes, this is the first time I've been to Japan, and I was lucky enough to get this opportunity from my school to have an exceptional welcome.
そうです。日本に来るのは初めてで、学校からの機会に恵まれたのは幸運でした。
Why did you want to come to Japan?
なぜ日本に来たかったのですか？
There are several reasons why I wanted to come to Japan, the first of which would certainly be to be able to see the culture that reaches France, namely Japanese popular culture and more specifically anime, manga and music. These are the aspects of pop culture that I've been most exposed to from France. Another reason came to light after learning about the context of this internship, i.e. to experience the more traditional culture of Japan, from a different point of view to that of tourism. The 3rd reason was definitely to put my Japanese to the test, with complete immersion for several months.
日本に来たいと思った理由はいくつかありますが、まずフランスに届く文化、つまり日本の大衆文化、もっと具体的に言えばアニメ、漫画、音楽を見ることができるということです。これらは、私がフランスから最も多く触れてきたポップカルチャーの側面です。もう1つの理由は、このインターンシップの目的を知り、日本の伝統文化を観光とは違った視点から体験してみたいと思ったからだ。3つ目の理由は、数ヶ月間日本語にどっぷり浸かることで、自分の日本語力を試したかったからだ。
How is your Japanese?
日本語はどうですか？
I've been hearing Japanese through anime for 8 years. I didn't have the determination to learn on my own and there are very few establishments in Laval that offer to teach this language; before ESIEA, I hadn't seen any. That's why, as soon as the opportunity arose, I decided to start learning. The first step in Katakana and Hiragana was a satisfying one. I was learning words I'd heard before, but on top of that I was learning the logical structure of the language.
アニメを通して日本語を聞くようになって8年になります。独学で勉強する決意はなかったし、ラバルには日本語を教えてくれる学校はほとんどありません。ESIEAに入学するまでは、この言語を教えているところを見たことがなかったのです。ですから、機会があればすぐに、学び始めることにしました。カタカナとひらがなの第一歩は満足のいくものでした。耳にしたことのある単語を覚え、その上、言語の論理的な構造を学ぶことができたのです。
I've been taking these Japanese courses for 3 years now. My level is very disparate, my comprehension exceeds my oral expression, which tends to be a little frustrating to not find my words. The current opportunity allows me to develop my oral expression and my comprehension, which motivates me even more to continue my efforts.
この日本語コースを受講して3年になります。私のレベルはとてもバラバラで、理解力が口頭での表現力を上回り、自分の言葉が見つからないことに少しイライラしがちです。今回の機会で、口頭表現と理解力を伸ばすことができ、さらに努力を続ける意欲が湧いてきました。
We hear that you like Jpop. Who are some of your favourite artists?
Jpopがお好きだそうですね。好きなアーティストは？
My favourite Japanese groups started out as groups who performed anime music: Aimer, Egoist, Milet, Mili, Nana Mizuki, Yoasobi. Then I had other groups suggested such as Reol, Yorushika, Zutomayo, Kokia and perhaps my favourite artist Ado after her release of the track Odo in 2021. Aside from that, I really enjoy music composed by Hiroyuki Sawano (including his collaborations with other artists) and Yuki Kajiura (Notably the films The Garden of Sinners and Type-Moon's Fate licence).
私の好きな日本のグループは、最初はアニメ音楽を演奏するグループだった： Aimer、Egoist、Milet、Mili、Nana Mizuki、Yoasobi。その後、Reol、Yorushika、Zutomayo、Kokia、そして2021年にOdoという曲をリリースした後、おそらく私のお気に入りのアーティストであるAdoといったグループを提案されました。それ以外では、澤野弘之（他のアーティストとのコラボレーションを含む）や梶浦由記（特に映画『空の境界』と『タイプムーンの運命許可証』）の作曲した音楽がとても好きです。
What about other types of Japanese culture - do you have any other interests?

This may sound repetitive, but I really like Japanese animation. Here's a non-exhaustive list of my favourite studios: ufotable (especially for the films The Garden of Sinners and the Fate licence), Gainax then studio Trigger, studio KyoAni, Wit Studio, studio Shaft and studio Ghibli. I find that these studios stand out from the others because of the particularities they manage to incorporate into the works they adapt or create.
繰り返しになってしまうかもしれませんが、日本のアニメがとても好きです。例えば、ufotable（特に空の境界とFateライセンス）、ガイナックス、スタジオトリガー、京アニ、ウィットスタジオ、シャフト、ジブリというスタジオが気に入っています。これらのスタジオが他のスタジオと一線を画しているのは、彼らが翻案したり創作したりする作品に特殊性をうまく取り入れているからだと思う。
The diversity of today's works has allowed me to glimpse many aspects of Japanese culture, such as rakugo, the importance and dangers of kotatsu (to fall asleep), the practicality of konbini, yokai, etc.
Perhaps these are aspects I would have overlooked if I hadn't watched many anime before coming.
今日の作品の多様性によって、落語、こたつの重要性と危険性、コンビニの実用性、妖怪など、日本文化の多くの側面を垣間見ることができました。
おそらく、アニメをたくさん見てからでなければ、見落としていたかもしれない部分です。
What kind of food do you like? Is there any particular Japanese food you enjoy?
どんな食べ物が好きですか？特に好きな日本食はありますか？
I'm not very picky when it comes to food, I like to try different dishes and enjoy the taste. One Japanese dish that I was able to try before coming to Japan was Golden Curry. It's a dish that I had the opportunity to prepare for a meal at ESIEA, which our association was organising. Making it for 30 people was quite fun.
食べ物に関してはあまりこだわりがなく、いろいろな料理を試して味を楽しむのが好きです。日本に来る前に試すことができた日本食のひとつに、ゴールデンカレーがあります。私たちの協会が主催するESIEAの食事会で作る機会があった料理です。30人分のカレーを作るのはとても楽しかった。
Have you tried natto yet? (fermented soy beans)
納豆はもう試した？
My first breakfast in Japan, at Shin-Osaka station, was a Japanese-themed breakfast plate, containing several small dishes such as miso soup, fish, beans, tofu, seaweed and a pot of natto. Having tried it without any sauce, I found it a little bland. However, after adding the soy sauce that was included and mixing it well, it had a bit more flavour! The viscosity of the dish still put my chopstick technique to the test.
新大阪駅で食べた日本での最初の朝食は、味噌汁、魚、豆、豆腐、海苔、そして納豆が入った和風の朝食プレートでした。何もつけずに食べてみたところ、少し味気なかった。しかし、付属の醤油を加えてよく混ぜると、少し風味が増した！粘度が高いので、箸のテクニックが試されました。
What do you like to do in your spare time?
余暇は何をするのが好きですか？
When I have free time in France, I spend it on my computer, watching live video games on Twitch or playing various games. I also spend a lot of time painting and building garage-kits of anime characters using an airbrush and lacquer paints. It's a pretty time-consuming activity, so when I've got classes on the side it doesn't get done very quickly… On top of that, I read the manga released in France to keep up to date with the series I'm buying.
フランスで自由な時間があるときは、パソコンに向かってTwitchでゲーム実況を見たり、いろいろなゲームをしたりして過ごしています。また、エアブラシとラッカー塗料を使って、アニメキャラクターのガレージキットを描いたり、作ったりしています。かなり時間のかかる作業なので、授業があるときはなかなか終わらないのですが......それに加えて、フランスで発売されているマンガを読んで、買っているシリーズの最新情報をチェックしています。
And finally, do you have a few words that you like to share with the people of Ibara?
井原の皆さんに一言お願いします。
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly to your city. It's a pleasure to be here and to experience first-hand Japan's rich culture and hospitality. I'm particularly looking forward to learning more about Ibara and its traditions. Your understanding and kindness have made me very happy.
I hope to be able to contribute in some way to the mission that has been entrusted to me. Thank you once again for this opportunity!
